This plant was previously named Oldenlandia cristata in the 2009 Singapore flora checklist. A search for Oldenlandia cristata on the in the Plants of the World Online website yielded no results. The answer was found in the Flora of Singapore (Rubiaceae) published in 2019 (page 123), indicating that Oldenlandia cristata was a provisional name and the current accepted botanical name is Hedyotis prostrata. As of 26 April 2025, the iNaturalist website still used the name Oldenlandia cristata, with 19 observations: 12 from Singapore, 5 from Malaysia, and 1 each from Indonesia and Hong Kong.
